In South Florida, we deal primarily with two species of termites; Drywood and Subterranean. Shoreline Environmental Pest Solutions has been in the business of stopping termite infestations for over forty years and understands that each variety is a particular kind of threat and requires a different method to attack and destroy it.
Drywood Termites can easily travel over soil, but they need a source of wood to build their colonies and increase their population. Trees are a preferred home and source of food. This variety sends fliers out of their colonies to look for reproduction opportunities. Every home in South Florida is an ideal landing place for them and Shoreline Environmental Pest Solutions can help your home with termite control in Jupiter. Attics are a favorite living and breeding grounds. Once established these drywood termites do not need moisture from the soil, but can survive with the natural humidity and even better, with small leaks in the vicinity. Small pellets, like light or dark colored coffee grounds, are a tell-tale sign of an infestation.
Shoreline Environmental Pest Solutions can perform a no-tent solution to these types of infestations. By inspecting and locating the colonies, we can inject the wood galleries directly with a foam product, either Termidor or Premise. Attic voids can be sprayed with Premise or Bora-Care for residual protection. The foaming agent gets into the system of the first termites who then feed other termites before dying. Once this cycle begins, it is very effective at wiping out an entire colony within a few weeks or so. This is called transference. For massive drywood infestations, a fumigation, or tenting of the entire structure, is required.
Despite the obvious, visual threat of the Drywoods, the Subterranean variety of termites are a greater danger to homes. This species thrives in both wood and soil, building their colonies and expanding their population in areas where there is only a bare minimum of moisture. The State agricultural board determined there are at least 4 to 8 colonies for every acre in Jupiter and much of South Florida. Other agencies and pest control services place that number at 10 to 15. Even with the smaller number, this means that there are at least one million Subterranean Termites per acre.
To combat this greater threat, we use the only termite control product recognized by the EPA with the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award. Sentricon uses a much lower number of chemical poisons and does not apply them by pouring the pesticides over an entire area. Instead, our technicians plant their Recruit HD termite bait plugs in Sentricon Stations around an infested structure. This eliminates the need for trenching around the foundation and drilling into the pad or interior areas. This bait is very desirable to Subterranean Termites. This pesticide is not a repellent (fipronil) and is not seen as a threat even as the colony slowly dies. Recruit HD keeps its appeal until most termites are exterminated.
Eliminating termites in and around your home is not a simple process, but the right pest control service can save your home from slow destruction. A thorough inspection is key in preventing and treating both drywood and subterranean termites. Rely on a team with years of experience and references.
